The composition is reduced, yet far from static. A delicate green curve, a regular vertical structure and a geometric form in the lower section create an image that feels like a record of movement, balance and concealed energy.

The dark background is fundamental to the work. Black does not function merely as a neutral field, but as an active space. It absorbs light, unifies the composition and creates an environment in which every additional element acquires exceptional intensity.

Against this dark surface, the subtle green line in the upper section becomes particularly striking. Its form is soft, fluid and appears almost as though drawn in a single gesture. It may evoke a body in motion, the trace of a gesture, a curve or simply an energy that briefly appears and then disappears again.

The title Dance of the Night is especially fitting in this respect. The dance is not depicted figuratively. There is no specific figure or scene. Movement is suggested only through the line and its relationship to the surrounding empty space.

This restraint gives the painting a particular tension. Rather than describing movement, the artist leaves the viewer to imagine it. The line remains open enough to suggest a gesture, a trajectory or a purely abstract sign.

The lower part of the composition is far more structured. Regular vertical stripes establish a firm rhythm and act as a counterpoint to the free curve above. The image therefore moves between two kinds of energy – spontaneous gesture and a strictly organised system.

Into this structure enters a pale semicircular form that creates the impression of a space or platform. Within it sits a smaller geometric construction resembling a transparent container, a model or an architectural object.

This small structure is particularly important because it concentrates attention in the lower part of the painting. Inside, accents of red, green and white create a miniature, almost theatrical world.

Here again, the motif of a space within a space appears – a recurring concern in Bohumil Eliáš Jr.’s work. The small geometric form feels like an independent architecture, while the surrounding image functions as the larger environment in which it exists.

The red element within this structure may suggest a figure, a trace or an energy contained within a precisely defined space. It is ambiguous, and it is precisely this ambiguity that creates a strong tension between the concrete and the abstract.

The painting therefore operates on several levels at once. The dark field establishes a nocturnal space, the green curve suggests movement, and the lower construction appears as a place in which something is taking place.

The relationship between surface and structure is also particularly compelling. The image is not uniform. Some areas feel almost matte and absorptive, others are defined by precise linear drawing, while still others give the impression of independent masses.

The artist’s sculptural way of thinking is evident here as well. The painting does not function simply as a flat surface, but as an arrangement of several visual layers. Each has a different weight, texture and spatial role.

The colour palette is extremely restrained, which gives it particular power. Black forms the foundation, grey and white construct the space, while red and green function as concentrated accents. As a result, each intervention of colour feels precise and deliberate.

In an interior, Dance of the Night can function as a highly refined solitary work. The 60 × 60 cm format is sufficiently strong while remaining intimate. It can work particularly well in a minimalist space, study, modern residential interior or any setting in which its dark tonality and subtle details can fully emerge.

The painting responds beautifully to a light wall, concrete, wood or metal. The contrast between the dark surface and its surroundings can further intensify its nocturnal, almost meditative character.

From a collector’s perspective, the date of 2024 is also significant. This is a contemporary work by Bohumil Eliáš Jr. that demonstrates his ability to work with reduction and create strong tension using only a small number of visual elements.

Within the context of the exhibition Two paths, one name, je Dance of the Night is important because it reveals another aspect of the artist’s painting practice. Alongside more intensely coloured works, here he works with far greater restraint, while his interest in space, construction, rhythm and movement remains fully present.

More about the artist >>> here <<<

More works by Bohumil Eliáš >>> here <<<

Popis: Dance of the Night, kombinovaná technika

Rozměry: 60 × 60 cm

Autor: Bohumil Eliáš ml.

Datace: 2024

[34,27

post-700","product","type-product","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","product_cat-v-galerii","product_cat-bohumil-elias-ml","first","instock","taxable","shipping-taxable","purchasable","product-type-simple
["GET
